Communications Design for Employee Engagement in an Indian Conglomerate
Client Background
An Indian conglomerate boasts a remarkable heritage linked to India’s progress since 1939. It has a legacy of promising initiatives that contributed to India’s advancement in the Cement and Sugar industries. Acknowledged as one of the most successful groups, it carries a legacy spanning over 80 years.
The Challenge
Faced with the profound disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic and the shift to remote work, the function head recognized the importance of preserving group values, culture, and operational practices with the current workforce while also instilling these principles in new hires.
The strategy had two main priorities. First, for the existing workforce, the focus was on reinforcing core group values, operational practices, and cultural cohesion through proactive measures to maintain engagement despite physical separation. Second, an equally important effort was directed at instilling these essential principles in all new hires.
The D21 Approach
The Employee Handbook was a cornerstone of strategic communication, serving as a vital tool for cultural assimilation and operational clarity. It systematically detailed the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to introducing key leaders, thereby establishing the group’s values and consistent tone. Addressing the modern workplace, the handbook featured prominent policies on remote work, defined the work-from-home ecosystem (etiquette, technology support), and outlined resources for employee well-being. Furthermore, it proactively managed future organizational transitions by addressing the planned shift back to office work, ensuring it remains an essential, dynamic reference for all employees.
In addition to the core campaign materials, our approach also included the development of communications collateral to support significant internal and external initiatives. Specifically, we designed various communication materials for the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations, ensuring the company’s participation was well-represented. Furthermore, we created comprehensive communications packages to announce and support the opening of new office locations, facilitating smooth internal transitions and external announcements.
